I have always have a love for the library, probably because I love books so much. It turns out, there’s a lot more to the library than just checking out books so I thought I’d share some of them with you!
1. ABCMouse.com
On a recent trip, I found out our local library offers free ABCMouse.com that you can access from your home. That is huge considering it costs $9.95/month if you were to pay for it. There are also computers at our library dedicated to ABCmouse.com that anyone can use.
2. Calendar of events: Story time for kids, ESL classes, Movies, Clubs, etc.
In our area, the library offers so many different classes for just about anyone. Story time was such a lifesaver for me when we moved to a new area and didn’t know anyone.
3. Discover and GO
This is somewhat of a secret for a lot of people. I found out about it years ago and soon told a lot of my friends who had no idea about it! Using your library card, you can sign up to receive different museum tickets either at a discount or completely free. It’s an amazing program!
4. Placing books on hold
I know this one sounds silly but the ability to search books online and then place them on hold from any library affiliated with my local library saves me so much time! Don’t get me wrong, I love going to the library and looking through the aisles of books but sometimes I just don’t have time for that and when I don’t, this is a nice service they offer.
5. “Kids view”
Another weird sounding one but our library offers a “kids view” that you can even access at home which makes it much more fun for my kids to play with and get excited about books.
6. Stories to Go series
Our library offers the “Stories to Go Series” that is meant to enhance learning at home. Each bag has a theme (Dinosaurs, Dance, Africa, Christmas, etc) that comes with five books, and a toy or puppet.
7. Entertainment
Our library has a ton of movies and music for both adults and kids. Enough said!
8. eBooks
Another great resource they have are eBooks which you can access if you download the app that the library uses. Very handy!
9. eAudiobooks
Much like the eBooks, audiobooks are another great way to enjoy books on the go! When I used to commute, I loved listening to audiobooks.
10. Laptop use
At our library, there is a kiosk to checkout laptops while you’re at the library. You just need a library card to do so.
