When we bought our first house, it came with a little area for a vegetable garden. We had so much fun planting all of the veggies and then picking them when the time came. After we moved, we weren’t able to have another vegetable garden for quite awhile so now that we are all settled again, we are planning on having another vegetable garden. Our house came with a small raised bed for plants but it wasn’t designed in the best way and we had to tear it down. Lately, we have been making progress on our garden. We have started sowing seeds which was a super fun process especially for the kids. Some of the seeds have already started sprouting!

We also began clearing out the area where our new garden will go. The first step is to clear out all of the rocks on the side of our house, which we completed today (for the most part).

Next, we have to construct the raised flower beds. We are going to use this tutorial for our plans. Then, we will add the soil/vermiculite/peat moss mixture just like the video discusses. We are also planning on hardening our plants for a few days and then we will be able to plant. I have been trying to figure out the best time to plants here in Northern California and have turned to Urban Farmer Urban Farmer Urban Farmer for some insight. I plan on doing another post when we have finished building our beds which should be soon. We tried to do it this weekend but the saw was broken at our Home Depot.
Are you planning on doing a vegetable garden this year? If so, what are you planning on planting? I always love ideas!
